As a Psychology grad, I'd always been interested in why we think the way we do, why we fall back into certain habitual ways of thinking - and how to change that.

It seemed to me that most of our suffering originates from our memories, and how we project that into a potential future situation.

And then of course bringing up the memory or future projection is happening in the "now" moment. 

How do we break that cycle?

How do we get unstuck from the past and release emotional triggers without aggravating ourselves all over again?

The answer is - whether easy or hard - we have to control our mind.

There are many ways to take control of your mind's direction - affirmations, journaling, creative pursuits...and meditation.

 

I was no stranger to meditation....I knew its powerful effects.

It allowed the "now" moment to just BE.

But it took commitment to let things go.

Meditation was tricky for me at first.

Allowing "thoughts to drift by like clouds" did NOT happen quickly. I was using silent, seated meditation (or tried to).

 

My mind would wander off to things I had to do.

Or it stayed fixated in an anxious state about something that had happened or something I projected might happen.

I was stuck in head-space.

Short, guided meditations combined with music changed my daily routine COMPLETELY.

It redirected my attention to the voice and the words. And the soothing effects of the music amplified that state.

 

As it so happened, I used Law of Attraction techniques to land a contract as a meditation voice artist for a California company with over 2 million subscribers.

I use my voice to induce a state of relaxation so listeners can easily fall into a refreshing, meditative state.

A Little Bit About Me:

I was 8 years old and had recently arrived in Canada from my birthplace in England.

Within a few weeks of starting school, relentless bullying from a pack of boys in my class landed me in the hospital.

Did it ever suck that the boy who was the biggest bully was the one I had a crush on!

I learned immediately to disguise my British accent and disappear into the background - it felt safer not to be noticed.

But I daydreamed about a better me out there and spent a lot of time staring out the school window and looking at trees. And imagining myself singing for thousands of people.

 

Eventually, my sad little self went to India for 5 years of high school and college.

There I discovered 3 unexpected allies…

Music, meditation and mantras (the potency of intentional words) had the power to soothe, calm, focus and raise my vibrations in a way that I had never experienced before.

I began to try different ways to use these. Separately and together. And I discovered just how powerful they could be.

It would be many years later that I would discover The Law of Attraction. I realized how my focus on both wanted and unwanted things had attracted matching experiences into my life.

I began to experiment with affirmations, meditations and visualizations and I noticed patterns.

How important it was for each person to use them in ways that connected to them energetically yet also "flex them" to adapt to different circumstances.

I also learned first-hand that taking massive action was full of struggle and efforting if I didn't get my internal state of being aligned first.

I did end up getting that singing dream. And many dreams after that.

 

It took longer to release the "real me"...there was no "better" me out there, there was simply me in here.
